Reaching out

 to the Homeless

The Social Concerns Committee with representation on the board of directors of Dover Interfaith Mission for the Homeless actively participates in caring for the homeless of the Dover area.

A part of society that is hidden to most of us is the homeless person. Depending upon how homelessness is categorized, estimates of the Delaware’s homeless population vary from a little more than 1,000 to more than 5,000. At 5000, one in every 171 Delawareans is homeless.

The Social Concerns Committee along with other volunteers from Holy Cross is involved in the following activities directed at helping the homeles:

Assist with feeding the homeless at the cold shelters during the winter season.

Sponsor and serve Wednesday night dinners to the homeless on a rotating schedule of the Dover Interfaith Mission for the Homeless.

Provide food from the food pantry to the homeless who are making the transition into temporary/permanent housing.

Assist the Dover Interfaith Mission in gaining shelter for the homeless.

Assist the Dover Interfaith Mission with the development of permanent long term facilities and services for the homeless.

For more information or to volunteer call Sue Comstock at 697-6476 or Kathy Lessard at 697-9778.
