A program for children who are currently in the First Sixth grades in the public schools. It is a program in which the doctrines, traditions and core understanding of Faith are introduced systematically. This is done in the classroom setting. When: September March; Wednesday 5:00 pm 6:30 pm; or Thursday 6:00 pm 7:30 pm or the Summer session Summer CCD This is for families who find that our programs during the school year create a scheduling hardship. This is a concentrated program meeting the required instructional hours during a two week period after the current school year is done. It will also include 2 connector seasonal family events. It is offered for Levels K, 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7/8. (No Level 2 classes) Special Situations: If the above programs are not possible due to family situations, please do not let your childs religious education lapse. Contact our office for an appointment and we will work with you to allow your child to continue to grow in the knowledge of their Faith. Please do so before September so we can create a plan that parallels the regular program. Special situations are dealt with on an individual basis with the goal that the child will return to a community-based class as soon as possible to experience the communal nature of Religious Education. Until then, you will be encouraged to attend seasonal family events Special Education: For families with children who have special needs, we provide an opportunity for ongoing religious education and sacramental preparation. Each situation is evaluated on an individual basis. Please contact one of the coordinators for more information.
First Communion and First Reconciliation PreparationFor those children who have completed Level 1 (usually corresponds to grade 1) and who are at least 7 years of age, we offer a preparation program for First Reconciliation (First Confession) and First Communion. This is accomplished in conjunction with their regular class schedule in Level 2. Other than the regular classes held weekly, the families are asked to participate in the following: Parent Preparation Sessions: These are sessions for parents held periodically during the year addressing: home activities to enrich classroom experiences; parent updating on the theology of the sacraments and their meaning in their life as an adult; planning for special celebrations. First Reconciliation Parent/Candidate Day and First Communion Parent/Candidate Day: For each sacrament there will be a parent/candidate day of events, activities and prayer to begin the preparations. This event will lay out the subsequent family activities for each sacrament that will be done in the home. Special Liturgical Events: These highlight the faith journey steps your child is taking: Late Fall: First Reconciliation children will be given an opportunity to celebrate the sacrament with their parent(s). They come for a communal prayer service and private confessions. Dates will be available at the first parent session. Inscription children are presented to the parish as candidates for First Communion at the Sunday Mass that they normally attend. Parents sign the child with the sign of the cross and commit themselves to the preparation witnessed by the community. Date will be announced at the first parent session. Spring: First Communion children will be given an opportunity to come to Communion for the first time at a Sunday Mass held in the spring. Dates will be available at the first parent session. |
