In 1870, the day after the laying of the cornerstone for the first Holy Cross Catholic Church, an acre of land at the corner of Clara and Queen Streets was purchased to serve as the cemetery.  A Mr. George Griffin was buried there before the end of that year.  In 1926, the Behen family donated a block of land, extending the cemetery to Clara and New Streets.  In 1945, Rev. Andrew Tosick purchased an additional 2.5 acres.   A Parish Hall, erected at the site, was used for a variety of activities until the 1950’s when the “new” church was built on South State Street.  At that time, the City of Dover purchased the hall to serve as a police station.  When the police moved to a new station, the building was demolished and the land reverted to the cemetery.  In recent years the parish has grown significantly.  To address this expansion Resurrection Mausoleum was constructed on the grounds of the existing cemetery.  This facility offers both crypts and niches and can be expanded to meet future needs.
